Practical Task - Fake Wound:

My inspiration is a tutorial I found on Youtube. It is a woman showing how to create a fake wound on the arm without using latex.

I decided to base my practical task of making a fake wound on this video because I found it looked very life-like and effective.

First of all I got all of my equipment that I needed to make the wound, and set them up so they were ready to use.

The things I used were, three paint brushes, PVA glue, scissors, a sponge, concealer, fake blood, eye shadow brushes, and tissue paper. I also used an eye shadow pallet. 

This is an image I took of my mum’s arm, which is who I chose to use as my model for this practical task. As you can see I have started to layer on the tissue paper with the PVA glue sticking it down.  I did this with about 4 layers of tissue, tearing it up into smaller pieces and layering them on top of each other. This is the outcome of what it looked like after I had finished layering the tissue on.

The next thing that I did was to add the bruising onto the skin. The darker, more ‘purpley’ areas are where I made the bruises in the skin. I shaded inside the hole onto the skin, around the outside of the hole, and also on other areas of the tissue to make the skin look more real. I blended the eye shadow in using the smallest paint brush.

The next thing I did was I started applying the fake blood. I started slowly, because if I was to get it wrong then it would ruin it.  I chose to use a thick blood, to make it look like the blood was clotting, inside the wound which I thought would make it look more life-like.

I slowly started to add more blood. I found with this type of fake blood, that the more I smeared it across the arm, the redder and thinner it became, making it look like runnier fresher blood. Using this I used the stodgier blood in the hole (the wound itself) to make the clot and smeared the blood around the outside to make it look like the blood had run.

I then thought I’d add one final touch to make the wound look slightly more real. I decided to add the scissors in, by balancing them inside one of the layers of tissue. As you can see in the photo it caused the bottom layers of ‘skin’ (tissue) to droop/fold over slightly which makes the ‘skin’ look even more fragile, adding to the effect.    

Now that I know how to create fake wounds, I will be able to take this and use it to add effect when it comes to creating our own horror film opening.

Practical Task - Fake Wound

I got my inspiration for the idea from a you tube video tutorial on how to make fake wounds DIY, this is the video: 

What I did-

Firstly I got all the equipment out which I may of needed, this consisted of, PVA glue, pritt stick, toilet roll, paint brushes, black and red paint, purple, blue and black eye shadow, red and back felt tips and red Biro's, bowl for water, fake blood, eye-shadow pallet, foundation, concealer, power, red lipstick, cheek tint, contour pallet, cotton pads, scissors and hair dryer. I didn't use all of these I just got a lot out in-case I needed it.

Next I got the toilet roll and tore off 5 2 squares of the toilet paper, I then ripped them in half.

After this I applied the PVA glue to the arm with a brush, I then layered one of the pieces on toilet roll making sure it was securely stuck on. I then put more glue on too of this and gradually layered up the toilet roll until all 5 coats were on, covering the last piece in the glue.

The arm was quite wet from the glue so I used the hair dryer to dry it off making use it was solid.

When fully dried I got the scissors and cut down the centre of the arm lifting up the toilet roll, creating a slit.

Next I got the make up I needed and painted on the arm foundation and powder to match it to the arms skin colour to make it look realistic .

After this I got the eye shadows and brushed in the slit to make a bruising effect and slightly around the slit as well.

Then I used the red paint in the slit to make it look like it was bleeding and fleshy.

Finally I added the fake blood to the fake wound to make it look more realistic I dripped the blood out of the end of the slit and put a bit more around it.

Overall I was happy with my attempt at a fake wound, as it was my first attempt at doing this I didn’t really know what to expect but I was happy with the result. Watching the video really helped me to be able to do this. If I was to do it again i'd make sure the foundation colour I used matched better to the persons arm I was using. I'd also take more time and care when putting the toilet paper on the arm and brushing the glue on making sure there isn't any bumps in it, which I found made the arm look a bit unrealistic. I'd like to try doing many different size wounds and in different places in the future, improving on the things I found I can improve on. I really enjoyed doing this however and was happy with the result in general, I feel my group could use one of my creations in our video depending on what we decide to do.
