Practical Task - Sound
This is my practical task where I have gone onto Soundcloud and selected sound effects that I think are scary and could be put into our film opening.
This is the first sound clip that I found from soundcloud. In this clip there are eight different sound effects which I liked. They are all varied. The first sound effect sounds like an echoing noise which turns into the sound of very high pitched violins.
The second effect is the sound of multiple children singing a song some of the lyrics I managed to pick up on were 'if you don't come play with us, we will have to kill you.' At the end of this effect is the sound of a scream, which suggests to the viewer that the children have killed someone.
The third effect is an eerie muffled noise which builds up to get really loud and then when it gets to a certain point it then starts to fade out again.
The fourth sound effect is very short and starts very abruptly and loudly. It is of violins and they get very high pitched very quickly which builds up tension quickly as well.
The next sound effect is of violins again and maybe brass instruments as well, but this time the sound is much more abrupt and stops and starts again repeatedly, almost making the viewer jump when it is being played.
The sixth sound clip in the video is of people whispering. As there is more than just one person's voice in the clip you are unable to hear what they are all saying which makes it more mysterious to the viewer.
The next clip is of violins which then almost turns into the deep sound of a single ring of a bell.
The final sound effect is of what sounds like the echo of an engine, that begins to fade in and out and throughout, slightly higher rings and deeper sounds are added which produces an eerie effect.
I think that all of these sound effects are effective as they all give off a different effect. For example the sound effect of the children singing gives a spooky atmosphere, whereas one of the sound clips of the violins has more of an eerie atmosphere. Using sound effects similar to these in our film opening would fit in because they would create the eerie effect we are looking for.
