Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging

Pros and cons to making a romantic comedy -
Pros:
·       You may not need to use many props or an extravagant costume.
·       It can be filmed in a simple location
·       No need for more than 2 actors.
·       Easy storyline – almost always boy meets girl
Cons:
·       There will be large amount of acting so the actors would need to act professional.
·       Has to have interesting dialogue or else the opening wont attract the viewer enough to want to watch the film.
·       As in the codes and conventions of a romantic comedy genre, there are usually sexual scenes however this would not be suitable for the actors to perform.

How the film conforms to the conventions of a Romantic Comedy genre –

This scene is at the end of the film and it shows Georgia and Robbie together after he turned down Lindsay because he wanted to be with Georgia. This conforms to the conventions of a Rom-com because it shows a happy ending where the girl gets the boy.

This screenshot shows the scene where Lindsay is being nasty to Georgia and warns her to stay away from her boyfriend Robbie, who Georgia has a crush on. The conventions for a Rom-com have a villain in and this scene conforms to that as Lindsay is presented as the villain.

This scene shows four girls who are a group of friends including Georgia who is the main character in the film. The girls in this scene are testing a theory of female experiences that a female target audience could relate to. This conforms to the convention that a Rom-com is usually for a female audience. Another thing that is shown in this clip is that it follows the life of a female. A convention to a Rom-com genre is that it focuses on a female’s life, which this conforms to.

In this film there are a range of different types of music that are used, most of them are upbeat and of a pop genre but when it comes to the romantic scenes more slow romantic music is played for example at the very end when Georgia and Robbie walk down the street holding hands. The upbeat pop music is played at Georgia’s party near to the end when she realises she hasn’t lost her friends, her mum isn’t having an affair and she gets the boy – who in actual fact is the one who is playing the music in his band. This music is diegetic and the song is even about Georgia.
