Locations of horror films - Practical Task - Natasha McGill

Locations of horror films
My inspiration was used from a different number of films.

This is an image of some woods, but it is taken
from the film women in black, as the house is
surrounded by woods. Woods are used a lot in
horror movies because a lot of things happen
in dark woods that are scary.
This is an image of an abandoned house, which would be a great idea in our horror opening scene, as these usually come across as haunted and spooky.

This is another abandoned house and again this is surrounded by woods, by using an abandoned house, they wouldn't know what to expect, as anything can happen.

Practical Task

My own photos:

They were the stairs that entered the bunker. This was during the middle of the day but here are some photos of an army bunker. It is really creepy and with being able to go inside of it as it's all pitch black with different rooms, this would make an effective location for an opening scene. It is easily found even though it is in the woods because there is a path at which there is a clear gap between the fences where the bunker then leads too. It will make a very effective horror movie opening sequence because we are able to make use of the bunker as we see it about the ground and we are able to go down inside which is rather creepy and so therefore a good location. Also with it being in the middle of a wood we can make use of the tress and the surrounding which conforms to genre of horror.

There was some graffiti shown on the walls inside, which I used flash lights and torches to help project light in order for me to take the photo. That would be a disadvantage of filming inside the bunker because it is literally pitch black and so nothing would be able to get picked up unless we used our own source of light. In supernatural horror films, a religious symbol is usually used shown, so by having this graffiti on the walls could be shown in a symbolic way. This wouldn't be hard either to recreate.

Some photos of abandoned sheds and farms are shown here which would be a good place for a supernatural horror opening scene to take place. It would be shot at night to give it that scarier atmosphere, but for accurate photos to be shown it would be easier to see in the day. It will be good because they make really good locations to make a horror movie with the the way they are laid out it can look rather scary and look very effective.
Although during night the filming quality may not be as good due to the darkness and if the camera would be able to pick up good images. Also when its dark the location is rather hard to find and its quite a long walk from the road into the woods, so we could easily get lost.

Also another location was an abandoned house, in which it was easily assessable as it was only 5 minutes walk into the woods from behind some houses. This would  be appropriate to use as it conforms to the conventions of a supernatural horror movie. The rooms would look very effective at night and due to it being empty we can make good use of the space thats available.
However again it is quite dangerous to go into because there was glass on the floor and the rooms were a bit worn down and didn't look very safe. Also again because there aren't any lights that can be used it will be hard to film and get goo quality shots.

This was a shot taken at dusk in the woods outside the back of my house. This would be an appropriate lighting to film the scenes in because it still is light for the camera to pick up the images and it is dark enough for it to look spooky.

All these locations are suitable for our genre and conform to a location of supernatural horror movies and they are easily accessible so this would be a good creepy location to film at.
