Planning of the Preliminary Task - Charlotte Wilson

Planning of the Preliminary Task

For our planning first we came together as a group and developed a storyboard, which contained drawings of the shots we were going to use and annotation describing each shot.
Below is a screenshot of our storyboard:

The first drawing is of the ‘mean gals’ Mehrabi and I walking down the corridor, which was a long shot and tracking shot of just me as I walked down the corridor as Mehrabi was unable to be there for the start of filming. We did include slow motion as I exited the building. We also changed the location to be outside instead of in, apart from the walking down the corridor.

In the second image a medium and long shot of Georgia the victim at her desk working, we used these shots but on a table outside. We then did reaction shots as I walked out the door and towards Georgia, we did shots close up on her face and then medium/ long shots as i walked out the door.

The next shot was an over the shoulder shot from Georgia’s perspective of me and then a close up was then used on Georgia’s face to show her upset.

The last image shows a 180 degree shot of the ‘mean gals’ throwing the victims work on the floor which we did but only with me. Our story board mainly matched with our finally result, a few changes were made but were kept along the initial ideas.

Once we drew this and annotated we each allocated each other jobs to do during the filming process. We decided that Natasha and Mehrabi would both film and determine the camera angles, whilst Georgia and myself, Charlie would be the actors involved in the video, Mehrabi was unable to get be there for the start of filming so she couldn't be included in the rest of the acting. As the video was meant to be made to look like a real life situation we decided on very natural props such as schoolbooks, paper, pencil case, and a bag. We also decided that the costume would just be our usual everyday school uniform. We chose for our first location of the bully to be inside the Izatt building in the main corridor and then the rest of the footage would be outside this building on a bench where the ‘victim’ would be sat.

During the filming we was lucky to have nice weather where was was able to film outside, which made the setting better then our original idea of being inside a classroom. I think the acting went well and everyone contributed equally which made the process a lot easier. The story line of our video was in chronological order, making sense to the viewers. Luckily we filmed during lesson time which means there was no disturbances and people in the background.

One of the problems we encountered was Mehrabi not being there at the start of filming which we didn't know about, we had to adjust to this by having just one mean girl being me. We also had a film a scene a few times as we couldn't get it right. We also didn't film enough match on action shots and was very simple.

If we was to do it again id make sure we do a lot more match on action shots for example close ups on the door shutting.mid also plan a lot better in advance on our story board add more detail so we new exactly what we was doing when. Id add more effects to the finishing result and music in the background. Id possibly even change the story line to something which includes more match on action like a spy entering a room to meet an agent, where a lot of match on action is needed.
