First of all as a group when we did our original planning for our main idea, we already had a rough image of what we wanted our supernatural being to look like without any research taken place. We didn't want the identity to be known to the viewer at any point, but once we had done some research we found the costume that the woman wears from the woman in black, and we found that her costume is very similar to the costume we had in mind for our supernatural being.
When we started paying more attention to detail as to what the 'woman in black' was actually wearing we started to bare it in mind when choosing our costume for our character in our film opening.
We looked at the fact she is wearing a veil over her face so it is covered slightly, and that she was wearing a hat so that none of her hair is visible to the viewer. Another thing I noticed was that she is barely showing any skin, the only thing of her actual body we are able to see is her face and only occasionally throughout the film we can see her hands. The 'woman in black' character is even wearing a roll neck so not even her neck can be seen to the viewer.
The final thing that we pointed out was that she was also wearing just black, and no other colour. We discussed that although this could be down to the fact that it is based on the idea of that film itself but it also does create a good effect on the viewer as the whole atmosphere it creates is darker and more evil.
Once we had finished research on existing film characters with a similar type of costume we planned on using we then started to actually look on places online to see where we could find anything that we would actually use in our film. Charlie volunteered to be the one to research into finding the costume, and she found this cloak from amazon, which she showed us and as a group we all thought that it looked quite good to use. The image below is the costume she found.
The only thing that we had to think about as a group is that we had the idea of using a veil to cover our character's face, like the 'woman in black'. However we thought that if we were to use a veil then you would partially be able to see our characters face which is what we didn't want because we didn't think that if the viewer could see the face of the actor then it wouldn't look nearly as scary. So when it came to filming we used the cloak but had our actor (Georgia) to turn the other way around so that you cannot see any of her body or her actual face, so the figure in our film opening looked exactly like the picture of the cloak itself above.
