Deconstruction Of Sound
I used the music Samaras song from the film the ring as i found this most interesting and catcher my attention the most. i feel like we could also use something similar to this in our own horror movie opening.
What i really like about this music is the use of a child singing throughout, the tube of the song is the background to a nursery rhyme or tune like on a child's music box, over the top we hear a girl repeatedly saying the same sentence over and over again, the last line of it being 'sun goes down and then we all die'. This is subverts a common representation of chidden as they using sing about happy things where as she is singing about death. In horror movies especially supernatural and psychological ones a young child is usually possessed, the music conforms to this representation, its very freaky and eerie music, which plays on the listeners mind which i like about it.
I then looked at another piece of music from the film sinister, i found the song 'Sleepy Time' which caught my attention the most.
There is a continuous heavy tune which plays throughout the song ,at the start of the song its quite quiet which gradually builds up as doing so does the tension and eeriness as well as the tune being repetitive throughout. Just as it gets louder a male voice starts to sing and say words which we cant understand or have no meaning too. They words kind of sound as if he’s trying to communicated with some sort of a spirt, which conforms to one of the conventions of supernatural horror including some type of religion. I felt like my group could use this song for our film opening as it doesn’t have words with it which can make it easier so our video doesn’t have to be based around the lyrics in the song, i also found it very freak adding a lot more tension to the scene in place.
