Location Practical Task
Near my house in Downswood there is a pathway which has lots of trees and a little stream opposite it is barbed wired fence with and electrical station behind it. Further down near my house is also a woods, thought both locations are suitable for the horror genre especially for this type of year where there aren't many leaves on the trees.
The first few pictures I took were around the barbed wired fence which i thought was very effective.
The first few pictures I took were around the barbed wired fence which i thought was very effective.
This first picture the barbed wire is not focused but the image behind is which says 'Danger of Death' I thought that making the focus more on this conformed more to the horror genre as it in general is about death. I think this located with the wire would work well in a slasher horror with a murder.
In this next image i have focused more on the barbed wire and added an effect to make it look more darker i just focused on this building on a long shot as its very plain and mysterious, the door looks very heavy as is metal leading us to wonder if was used in our film opening what was hidden behind it.
I used a different angle for this shot so you can see the whole landscape better, we can see the whole building is surrounded by barbed wire making it more affective to what's being trapped if was used. I added an effect to also make it darker as bring colours aren't commonly used in horror movies.
In these next two images you can see the before and after on the editing effect which I have used. I have made it darker and sharper making the lock and dirtiness stand out more. I also thought this worked well as the lock looks quite old and tatty you can also see in the back the 'Danger of Death' sign and barbed wire as well as the lock which is why i chose this angle.
This is the before I edited picture
This is the after edited picture I have used this effect on most of the pictures as i thought it make it look darker and more effective.
I then took long shot pictures of the bridges from both sides, i feel like the second image looks more clearer and the bridge looks better as it looks longer and trees sit nicely however i feel like its too light and what it leads to in the back doesn't look very scary. The first one i feel looks darker and run down with the red paint on the side of the bridge looking a bit like blood it also leads to the barbed wired building. I feel like this setting would be very useful for someone to be followed within a horror move or be watched, this would be very effective in the third picture of the bridge.
I really like the angle of this picture as is looks like you are in the point of view of someone possible watching or stalking someone within a horror movie like slasher where the killer is stalking the victim or being watched by a demon of ghost in a supernatural.
In these next three images I thought they were quite different and scary which is why I took them.
I found this which is made out of sticks which looks a bit like a cage, I like this image as its a bit strange and different, I thought this shot could look good within a supernatural or psychological horror.
The graffiti on this image really stood out to me, I edited it a bit to make it stand out more but i could see something like this to be used within a slasher. As well as the image below.
I like how the trees have no leaves on in this picture and there is a lot of moss on the building. I also find this very strange how this building is placed there, very intriguing to the viewer if was used in our film opening.
I used extreme long shots in these next few pictures to really capture the setting. I also added a different effect to the others which was a bit more washed out a bit of a white coat over it. I found this made them looked more supernatural as i got the idea of ghosts. All the images show that there is no one around and looks very lonely.
In particular i really like this image as you cant see where the little bridge leads to making it more interesting and effective.
I also like the battered bin in this image. I these last few images would be used within a supernatural horror, which is the idea I feel my group are moving towards more.
I think the pictures i have taken work well in the horror genre and I feel is a possible location we could use for our film opening. The only problem we may have its that its usually quite busy around these areas so may be hard to film and also the surroundings next to the images taken aren't as scary and effective. Overall i am happy with the images I have taken and the effects and editing i have added over the top of them.
